The exhibit features mixed media sculptures using glass, ceramic, metal, and wood. This mixed media exhibition grew out of a CARFAC mentorship between Cooley and Ferguson in 2015-16. As part of the mentorship, they combined their respective mediums of clay and glass to create several collaborative pieces.
The resulting ceramic and glass sculptures whetted their desire to continue to create and exhibit together, providing the impetus for the new work shown in this exhibition.
Cooley and Ferguson used the iconic boat form as a starting point for all their works which allowed them to explore various interests such as formal qualities of light, shadow and negative space or metaphorical journeys through life and time. A third of the show is collaborative, a third are done by Cooley and a third done by Ferguson.
The Gallery is hosting an opening reception to meet the artists and discover more about their works, on Saturday, July 9, from 1:30 – 4:00pm.
Passages will be on display until September 9, 2022
