Make Your Own Pysanka

What’s a pysanka? It’s a traditional Ukrainian Easter egg made using the wax-resist method and a kitska – a special pen-like tool designed just for this!
We’re helping you get ready for Easter this year with another Make Your Own Pysanka workshop! In this hands-on, beginner-level class, you’ll be shown special techniques for creating beautiful designs, and get the chance to explore the rich history and symbolism behind this cherished Ukrainian artform.
This workshop will be led by Karen Pidskalny, a pysanka artist and educator specializing in traditional and contemporary Ukrainian egg decoration. With many years of experience teaching learners of all ages, she is passionate about sharing both the hands-on techniques and the rich cultural symbolism behind this centuries-old art form. Known for her clear instruction and engaging teaching style, Karen creates a welcoming workshop environment that encourages creativity while honouring tradition, helping participants gain both practical skills and a deeper appreciation for Ukrainian heritage.
The workshop will be held at the Gallery on Saturday, March 28 from 1:30 to 4:00pm. General registration is $25, and Member registration is $22.50. To sign up, pop into the Gallery or Museum during opening hours, call (306) 682-5226, or email info@humboldtmuseum.ca.
See you there!
