Telling Our Story: The Archives
The Archives of the Humboldt and District Museum and Gallery holds the collective memory of Humboldt and area--its families, community groups, businesses and individuals. The archive’s mandate includes the continual acquisition of archival material related to Humboldt and area through public donations. The archives provides public access to archival records while maintaining stringent conservation measures to preserve the collection.
The archival collection includes records and artifacts from community organizations such as the Humboldt Chamber of Commerce, Prince Rupert Masonic Lodge, Independent Order of Odd Fellows, Sunshine Rebekah Lodge, Humboldt Lions Club, Humboldt Music Festival, Humboldt 4-H club and many more.
Help us preserve the past
Churches of St. Peter’s Colony: a registry and map of churches of all denominations has been created for the area. We are continually looking for further information and stories about these churches. (Photo at right: Holy Guardian Angels Church and Rectory, Englefeld, circa 1914.)
Country Schools in the Humboldt District: Did you attend school in Humboldt and area? We would appreciate your donation of photographs, stories or material for our archives.
Business Directory: We are documenting every business in Humboldt, whether in business for 10 months or 100 years. If you have owned or operated a Humboldt business, please contact us, so we can add your business to our directory.
Photograph Collection: Do you have photographs of Humboldt or surrounding communities? We have a photographic view of Humboldt’s history that could benefit from your donation. We are specifically looking for more recent photographs from 1940 to present.
Consider a donation
If you have information that would assist in telling Humboldt’s story, please consider making a donation to the museum’s collection. Photographs, history books, family histories and historical accounts of life in Humboldt are best shared with others by making them publicly accessible through a donation to the museum.
Research
Visitors are invited to conduct research at the museum by browsing through our local history books, family histories and archival listings. Requests for information that require substantial staff time may be subject to a nominal fee.
The Humboldt Journal newspaper from 1905 to present is available for viewing on microfilm.
